New Mpb
More about New Mpb
Nova MPB — or New MPB — is a contemporary wave of Brazilian popular music that renews the classic MPB legacy by fusing it with indie, electronic, neo-soul, and lo-fi aesthetics. Emerging in the 2010s from urban centres such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Curitiba, this new generation of Brazilian artists embraces the melodic richness and lyrical depth of their predecessors — Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Milton Nascimento — while adopting the production codes of modern independent music.
Musically, Nova MPB is defined by stripped-down arrangements, warm analogue textures, samba and baião rhythms filtered through synthesiser pads, and intimate close-mic vocals. Tempos tend to be unhurried, harmonies sophisticated, and lyrics oscillate between romantic introspection and snapshots of Brazilian urban life, always delivered in Portuguese with the conversational ease inherited from bossa nova. Bedroom-studio production and lo-fi aesthetics clearly distinguish this scene from the polished major-label MPB of previous decades, giving it an organic, personal quality that resonates strongly with younger audiences worldwide.
On FestT, LUIZA is among the most active Nova MPB artists, appearing in over 33 festivals listed on the platform. She joins a generation that also includes Luedji Luna, Anavitória, and Luiza Girardello — a voice praised for blending MPB with jazz and soul with rare poetic intensity. Together, these artists represent the vibrant renewal of a Brazilian musical tradition that now resonates far beyond South America.
On FestT, Nova MPB artists are programmed at world music festivals, Latin music showcases, and international independent festival stages. Find upcoming dates for LUIZA and other Nova MPB artists on FestT and experience this living Brazilian tradition in concert.
