Alternative Hip Hop

Alternative Hip Hop: 47 upcoming festivals, including 13 with tickets on sale.

Alternative Hip Hop defies traditional rap stereotypes, blending diverse genres like funk, rock, electronic, soul, and jazz to create an eclectic and often experimental soundscape. Emerging in the late 1980s, it developed as a counterpoint to mainstream rap, drawing influences from the broader alternative movement and a wide array of musical styles. Iconic artists such as A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul exemplify its innovative spirit. Its impact broadened the scope of hip hop, fostering a more musically adventurous and lyrically diverse landscape.
