Blue-eyed soul is characterized by its heartfelt vocal delivery, often featuring powerful, emotive singing over a foundation of rich instrumentation including brass, strings, and a prominent rhythm section, all contributing to a vibrant, often danceable energy. This genre emerged in the mid-1960s as white musicians embraced and interpreted the sounds of African-American soul and rhythm and blues, drawing heavily from gospel traditions and Motown's polished production. Iconic artists like The Righteous Brothers, Hall & Oates, and Dusty Springfield exemplify its enduring appeal. Its cultural impact lies in its role in broadening soul music's audience and demonstrating its universal emotional resonance.
