Slowcore

Slowcore: 30 upcoming festivals, including 9 with tickets on sale.

Slowcore is a subgenre of alternative and indie rock defined by its extremely slow tempos, minimalist arrangements, and often clean, undistorted guitar work, creating a somber and poignant atmosphere. Emerging in the late 1980s and early 1990s, it developed from the indie rock scene, often sharing sensibilities with sadcore due to its melancholic lyrical themes and grave melodies. Iconic artists like Codeine, Low, and Red House Painters are central to the genre's sound. Its subdued intensity offered a stark contrast to the more aggressive rock prevalent at the time, leaving a lasting impact on introspective indie music.
