Alternative Pop, or alt-pop, typically blends accessible pop melodies with experimental sonic textures, often incorporating unconventional arrangements, diverse instrumentation, and a more introspective or artful atmosphere than mainstream pop. Emerging in the mid-1980s, it originated from indie pop, describing underground pop that experimented with an eclectic range of influences and musically challenging arrangements, moving away from hard rock and punk derivations. Iconic artists like Lorde, Billie Eilish, and Halsey exemplify its modern sound. Its cultural impact lies in pushing pop boundaries, fostering artistic individuality within a popular framework.
