Europop is characterized by its catchy melodies, often upbeat synth-driven instrumentation, and a generally optimistic, danceable energy, frequently featuring prominent vocal hooks. Emerging in Europe during the 1960s and flourishing through the late 1970s, it drew influences from traditional pop structures and nascent electronic sounds, gaining significant chart success in the 1980s and 1990s. Iconic artists like ABBA, with their global reach, exemplify the genre's appeal. Its widespread popularity across continental Europe and beyond cemented its place as a cornerstone of international pop music.
