Instrumental Hip Hop

Instrumental Hip Hop: 26 upcoming festivals, including 10 with tickets on sale.

Instrumental Hip Hop typically features a laid-back, often atmospheric sound, driven by sampled drum breaks, soulful melodies, and prominent basslines, creating a groove-centric, often reflective energy without a vocal MC. Its origins are deeply rooted in the early days of hip-hop DJing, where producers crafted beats for breakdancers and MCs, evolving from the instrumental sections of funk and soul records. Iconic artists like DJ Shadow, J Dilla, and Nujabes are celebrated for their innovative contributions to the genre. This subgenre has significantly influenced lo-fi hip hop and remains a cornerstone for producers globally.
