Space Rock

Space Rock: 46 upcoming festivals, including 17 with tickets on sale.

Space rock, originally known as "planante music," is a rock subgenre characterized by lengthy instrumental passages, often featuring electronic organ, synthesizer, and experimental guitar, all while evoking cosmic themes and science fiction with whispered, poetic lyrics. Emerging from the British progressive and psychedelic rock scenes of the 1960s and 70s, it blends a sense of vastness with hypnotic rhythms and often high energy. Iconic artists include Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, and Gong, with German acts like Tangerine Dream also making significant contributions to its development. This genre's expansive soundscapes continue to influence bands exploring atmospheric and experimental rock.
