April is the month of festival momentum building: with 493 festivals, the season gains intensity and major international acts begin to fill the headlines. Between Easter and the return of warm weather, European stages come alive and transatlantic dates follow in quick succession.
The month is defined by a series of landmark events: Tallinn Music Week in Estonia brings together 180 artists in a unique music discovery format, Rewire Festival in the Netherlands lines up 142 artists in an experimental setting, and the legendary Coachella (Weekend One) and Coachella (Weekend Two) each attract 137 artists in California. Paaspop in the Netherlands rounds out the top five with 123 artists. Dominant genres include Rock (178 festivals), Pop (147) and Electro (133).
The United States still leads with 155 festivals, but Europe is growing in weight: France (85), Germany (39), the United Kingdom (36) and Spain (24) offer a dense choice for European festival-goers.
