splash! 2027 at Ferropolis: rap among the steel giants of Saxony-Anhalt
From Thursday July 8 to Saturday July 10, 2027, splash! Festival ("presented by Sprite") takes over Ferropolis, a peninsula by the small town of Gräfenhainichen, between Leipzig and Berlin in Germany, for three days of hip-hop and rap. This former open-pit mine, the "city of iron", is now an open-air museum: crowds gather beneath giant bucket-wheel excavators, and people swim in the Gremminer See, a lake formed since 2000.
It started in 1998 at a Chemnitz youth club, around the crew Tefla & Jaleel. Its organisers call it the German-speaking world's first hip-hop festival, and its crowd grew tenfold in a year. Rain-drowned editions later put it in danger, until a 2006 donation drive raised about €500,000. In 2007 it moved to Pouch, near Bitterfeld, where it marked its 9th and 10th birthdays with Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg on top, before settling at Ferropolis in 2009.
Ufo361 heads the 2027 bill, in his only German show of the year. Joining him: Badmómzjay, Paula Hartmann, makko, Apsilon, Juju, Filow, Ramzey, Joje, Maikel, Lavender and Scorpion Gang (Summer Cem, Billa Joe, Pajel), days still to come. Over 140 sets and events, with times out shortly before: the campsite's Radio Stage and FAIRopolis area wake up in the morning, the main stages in the afternoon, and it runs into the early hours.
By late October, 10,000 tickets were gone: "Limited Drop" Festival Ticket at €194.95, phase-two 4-Friends Ticket at €189.95 per person, parking at €34.95, car or caravan camping at €89.95 (max 8 m, 3.5 t and four people). Premium adds a separate campsite with its own washrooms and shuttle stop, fast-lane entry and a reserved area.
Tents and stages are 15 to 20 minutes apart on foot along the lake, or a shuttle ride. Cashless only (NFC wristband or card), no glass, vegetarian and vegan street food; supermarkets are 3 to 4 km away in Gräfenhainichen; train or bus is advised.
