Indie folk blends the melodic sensibilities of indie rock with the acoustic warmth of contemporary folk, often featuring guitars, understated rhythms, and an intimate, reflective atmosphere. Emerging in the 1990s, this genre was born from independent rock musicians drawing inspiration from traditional folk and country music. Key early artists include Ani DiFranco and Dan Bern, with later notable acts like Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes further defining its sound. The genre's emphasis on introspection and raw emotion has resonated widely, fostering a strong connection with listeners seeking authenticity.
