📋About
Town Folk Festival 2026: a single folk day across a pub, a brewery and a winery in Castlemaine
Castlemaine, in the Australian state of Victoria, on Dja Dja Wurrung country, hosts the Town Folk Festival 2026 for one day only, Saturday 21 November. It was dreamed up in 2022 by Jez and Pat Furze, who run the Bridge Hotel, together with two of their Walker Street neighbours, the Shedshaker Taproom brewery and Boomtown Winery. The organisers pitch it as a day for discovering folk music as it sounds today.
There are four stages, none more than 350 metres from the next. The biggest sits on the Sunken Oval, a lawn where people bring folding chairs and picnics, open from 11am to 11pm with DJs filling the gaps between bands; the other three are the founders' own venues. Set times have not been released.
American songwriter Kevin Morby brings his new record, Little Wide Open, while New Zealand's Aldous Harding plays Train on the Island as the sun goes down. Folk Bitch Trio also take the main stage. Further down come Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, a band seldom seen live these days, British group Flyte on their first Australian tour, the funk of Dutch outfit YĪN YĪN, and Docker River Band, who sing in Pitjantjatjara and make their Victorian debut. Allegra Krieger, Darren Hanlon, Jordie Lane, Way Dynamic, Romy Vager, Maggie Alley and local act Tiramisu Misterioso round it off.
On Friday, Scrub Up fills the town for free from 4pm to 10pm; on Sunday morning, Sunday Rinse moves into the Old Castlemaine Gaol with the Forest Creek Folk Choir ($25, $15 for under-15s).
All ages are welcome if minors come with an adult: under-2s go free, ages 2 to 7 pay A$20 and ages 8 to 17 A$35. No dogs and no BYO alcohol; there is a bar, food trucks, washed reusable crockery, Auslan interpreting and an accessible viewing platform. The Town Folk Express coach leaves Thornbury or Brunswick at 9:30am; by V/Line train, the last service back goes at 10:01pm. At Camp Town Folk, on Wattle Flat Recreation Reserve, general camping is full; BIG4 Castlemaine is right next door.
Sold out with no waitlist: resale runs through Tixel. Find more dates in Australia or in November 2026.
