Early bands — Corvus Corax, In Extremo — traced paths that were later refined by a generation of musicians seeking a balance between folkloric authenticity and popular rock.
Musically, medieval rock blends electric guitars and modern bass with an arsenal of ancient instruments: flutes, bagpipes, hurdy-gurdies, tambourines and medieval percussion. The Spectaculum, Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum and dozens of other medieval markets across the German-speaking world host these bands in period settings.
