Melodic Death Metal

Melodic Death Metal: 43 upcoming festivals, including 21 with tickets on sale.

Melodic Death Metal blends the ferocity and guttural vocals of death metal with harmonized guitar melodies and intricate song structures derived from traditional heavy metal. Emerging in Sweden during the early 1990s, particularly from Gothenburg, this genre fused extreme metal's aggression with a sophisticated melodic sensibility, often drawing comparisons to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Iconic pioneers include At the Gates, In Flames, and Dark Tranquillity, who defined its signature sound. The genre's strong Scandinavian roots led to its alternate moniker, "Gothenburg Death," highlighting its geographical origin and distinctive regional style.
