Stoner Metal

Stoner Metal: 57 upcoming festivals, including 17 with tickets on sale.

Stoner metal is characterized by hypnotic, simple, and repetitive rhythms, a very heavy bass, melodic vocals, and a "retro" production aesthetic, creating a thick, often hazy atmosphere. This subgenre emerged and gained popularity in the 1990s, blending elements of doom metal, psychedelic rock, blues rock, acid rock, and classic heavy metal. Key pioneers include Kyuss and Sleep, whose sound defined the genre's sludgy, groove-laden foundations. The term "stoner rock" itself likely originated from the 1997 compilation *Burn One Up! Music for Stoners*, solidifying its identity.
