Movement Detroit 2027: techno on home turf at Hart Plaza, by the Detroit River
Detroit calls itself the birthplace of techno, and the festival returns to the heart of downtown from Saturday 29 to Monday 31 May 2027, over the long Memorial Day weekend. The venue is Hart Plaza, at 1 Hart Plaza (Detroit, MI 48226): a park first planned in 1924 and laid out in the 1970s by Isamu Noguchi, home to the "Gateway to Freedom" and "Transcending" monuments.
Nobody knows the 2027 bill yet. To picture the format, the 2026 edition ran six stages: the Movement Stage, set in the amphitheatre, for the headliners; the Waterfront, leaning towards funk, hip-hop, breakbeat and ghettotech; the Pyramid, facing the water; Stargate; the Detroit Stage, kept for hometown talent; and the Underground, a warehouse-style room tucked below the plaza. Through the Artist in Residence programme with 1XRUN, murals and installations pop up across the grounds; Goldie has taken part before.
