📋About
Schlossgrabenfest 2026: free pop, rock and electronic music in Darmstadt
Each May for decades, the historic centre of Darmstadt transforms into a massive open-air stage for Schlossgrabenfest, one of Germany's largest free festivals. On the banks of the Schlossgraben, multiple stages simultaneously host pop, rock, electro and hip-hop for audiences of hundreds of thousands.
The 2026 programme blends established names with emerging acts: Alphaville, the cult dark wave and synth-pop group from the 80s with "Forever Young", share the bill with contemporary German artists. Ikkimel represents the new generation of German-language hip-hop, while Baba Shrimp Gang and BELLA illustrate the vitality of the local independent scene.
Schlossgrabenfest embraces a deliberately inclusive musical palette: disco, funk, reggae, pop rock and singer-songwriter coexist on different stages, allowing every visitor to find their music. Dance and deutsch-rap complete an offer designed for all ages.
Schlossgrabenfest is far more than a festival: it is a spring ritual for the city of Darmstadt and its region. Its complete free admission, its location in the historic city centre and its eclectic four-day programme make it a unique model in Germany. With 50 artists and the urban buzz surrounding the stages, it generates an incomparable collective energy.
