Country at festivals
Country music took shape in the American South in the 1920s; Congress recognizes Bristol, Tennessee, as its birthplace because of the 1927 Bristol recording sessions. The biggest country festivals are American and outdoors: Stagecoach has run in Indio, California, since 2007, in late April, and Two Step Inn started in 2023 in Georgetown, Texas, also in April, adding Americana, rock and hip-hop to its country headliners.
Europe's reference point is C2C: Country to Country, first held in London in March 2013 and later extended to Dublin, Glasgow and Berlin, still held in March. In France, the Festival Country in Craponne-sur-Arzon, Haute-Loire, fills the Parc des Étoiles over a weekend in late July.
