The festival is held at Square du château, 17700 Surgères (Charente-Maritime, France), right in the town centre, within the grounds of the château. Both stages share this single address. By car, Surgères is reached via the A10 motorway (D911 exit from Paris, 430 km; exit 33 Niort Sud from Bordeaux, 160 km) or the A83/N137 from Nantes (120 km). By train, there is a direct line from Paris Montparnasse to Surgères. The nearest airports are La Rochelle – Île de Ré and Rochefort – Saint-Agnan. Carpooling is also encouraged.
How many stages does the festival have?
The Surgères Brass Festival is built around two stages, both set up at the Square du château. The Scène du Jardin (Garden Stage) hosts the Village des Cuivres during the day (workshops, stalls, a kids' area, food), while the Scène du Parc (Park Stage) hosts the evening concerts.
Is payment cashless on site?
No, the festival does not use a cashless wristband. Bars and food stalls work with tokens (jetons), which can be bought by card, cash or cheque. At the entrance box office, card, cash, cheque, chèque culture and chèque vacances are accepted. Note that cards are not accepted at the merchandise stand (cash or cheque only), and banknotes larger than 50 € are not accepted on site. Bring small-denomination cash to be safe.
What can and can't you bring onto the site?
For safety reasons the following are prohibited on site: professional cameras and recording equipment, alcohol, cans, glass bottles, illegal substances, animals and weapons. You also cannot bring your own food or drinks in. You may, however, bring your own reusable bottle: water points are available at both stages.
Are children admitted and is there an age limit?
The festival welcomes children. Admission is free for under-6s accompanied by an adult holding a ticket (a free exempt ticket must be added when ordering), and a reduced child rate applies from ages 6 to 12 (up to the last day of being 11). ID may be requested to prove age. The Village des Cuivres also features a dedicated area for younger visitors with games and music-themed workshops.
