Bospop 2027: three days of pop-rock in Weert, the Netherlands
It all began in a schoolyard in Hushoven in July 1981. The idea had been floated a year earlier at the KWJ youth club, then turned into a real event by Peter Verkennis and Henk Haex; the Bospop name and its owl mascot only came along in 1982. The festival then moved more than once: the De Lichtenberg open-air theatre from 1985 to 1993, Sportpark Boshoven from 1994 to 2009 (plus one more time in 2013), and finally Weert-Noord, used from 2010 to 2012 and again from 2014 onwards. It returned there in 2022 after two summers lost to covid, on grounds a short hop from the A2 motorway.
Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, ZZ Top, Deep Purple, Neil Young, Santana, Toto and Simple Minds have all played here, which sums up the profile: big-stage rock, classics that never date, blues, soul and a few new discoveries.
