Cowichan Valley Bluegrass Festival 2027: three days of acoustic strings on Vancouver Island
People come here to play as much as to listen. Banjo, fiddle, mandolin and upright bass ring out from morning until late at night, on stage and between the tents alike. The festival is devoted to bluegrass and old-time, the string music handed down from Appalachia, with a clear preference for acoustic bands; traditional country and retro-flavored sounds also have a place. It bills itself as the largest gathering of its kind in British Columbia.
It all began modestly in Sooke, as the Sooke River Bluegrass Festival. Having run out of room on that first site, the event relocated in 2019 to Laketown Ranch Music Park, close to Lake Cowichan, taking on a new name in the process.
