Bassline is a high-energy electronic genre characterized by prominent, often aggressive basslines, four-to-the-floor rhythms, and a driving, club-ready atmosphere, frequently featuring chopped vocal samples and brisk tempos. Emerging from the UK garage and speed garage scenes around Sheffield in 2002, it shares sonic characteristics with early dubstep and grime, evolving from the vibrant Northern club culture. Key artists include DJ Q, T2, and H "Two" O. The genre gained significant traction in Northern England, particularly at the iconic Niche club, whose name became synonymous with the sound before its controversial closure.
