Nu Disco is a modern electronic genre characterized by a smooth, often shimmering sound, featuring prominent basslines, four-on-the-floor rhythms, and a feel-good, danceable energy, frequently incorporating live instrumentation like guitars and synthesizers. It emerged in the early 2000s as a contemporary reinterpretation of 1970s disco, blending its classic grooves with elements of funk, house, and indie dance. Artists like Lindstrøm, Todd Terje, and Breakbot are key figures in shaping its distinctive sound. The genre often evokes a nostalgic yet fresh vibe, finding popularity in both club settings and chill-out playlists.
