58 upcoming festivals feature Psytrance, 15 where it dominates; 17 with tickets on sale.
Psytrance at festivals
Psytrance grew out of the beach parties of Goa, India, where DJs swapped psychedelic rock for electronic records through the 1970s and 1980s; from 1993, Goa-style parties spread across Europe. A psytrance festival usually runs for several days with camping, and stages are split by style: full-on at 140 to 148 BPM, progressive, dark psy (which took shape in Germany and Russia after 2003), forest, plus a chill-out area.
Boom started in 1997 as a Goa trance party in Portugal, moved to Idanha-a-Nova in 2002 and runs in July, with the next edition announced for 2027. Ozora has run near Dádpuszta, Hungary, since 2004, from late July into early August, and camping there is mandatory. Masters of Puppets fills a week of July in Valeč v Čechách, Czech Republic, with one stage for dark psy and hi-tech and another for forest.
