📋About
Kendal Calling 2027: born in Kendal, settled in the Lake District fells since 2009
Despite the name, Kendal Calling no longer takes place in Kendal. Its home is Lowther Deer Park in Hackthorpe, near Penrith (Cumbria, United Kingdom), 25 minutes north of the town. The estate, once an animal park, sets the main stage in a natural amphitheatre facing the fells. The 2027 edition runs from Thursday July 29 to Sunday August 1; no acts are named yet, but in late October 2026 the site reported that more than 60% of tickets were gone.
It started in 2006 as a two-day party in Abbot Hall Park, Kendal, with Pendulum and British Sea Power. A winner at the UK Festival Awards in 2010 and 2013, it has hosted Blondie, Franz Ferdinand, Nile Rodgers & Chic, Kasabian, Paolo Nutini and Keane. With no festival in 2020 or 2021 (Covid), it marked 20 years in 2025 with Fatboy Slim, The Prodigy and Courteeners, between British rock and electronic music.
Recurring spaces include Calling Out, the new-talent stage since 2010 (Mumford & Sons and The 1975 both played it), which also hosts an indie disco; Parklands, an "upside-down" garden; Lost Eden, woodland full of art installations; Desert Island Disco for disco, soul and funk; Tim Peaks Diner, run by Tim Burgess of The Charlatans since 2012; table-served barbecue at Ranch 76; and Kids Calling for children.
Payments can be spread from £22.80 a month. Usually only a weekend ticket (Friday to Sunday) is sold, with Thursday arrival as an add-on. Standard camping, including a family campsite, is included, alongside upgraded campsites, Tangerine Fields pre-pitched tents and the Deer Lodge boutique site, from £775. Arrive via the M6 (junction 39), by Big Green Coach, or by train to Penrith North Lakes with a shuttle from the station; parking passes are booked ahead. As a rule, over-16s may attend alone; younger fans need a parent or guardian aged 21 or over.
