Africa Oyé 2027: the festival turns 35 on 19 and 20 June in Sefton Park, Liverpool
Africa Oyé began in 1992 as a series of small gigs in Liverpool city centre and moved to Sefton Park in 2002. It returns there on 19 and 20 June 2027 for an edition where the organisers celebrate "35 years of Oyé". In its early days half of the artists came from Latin America; today the festival celebrates the music and culture of Africa and the Diaspora, and also programmes salsa, soca and reggae.
The 2026 edition marked the switch from a historically free event to a ticketed festival, with over 25,000 people according to the organisers, and Patoranking, Fatoumata Diawara and Janet Kay on the line-up. No artists have been announced for 2027 yet: the festival promises international artists and emerging local talent, community performances and the return of its DJ stage.
