📋About
Fiest à Sète: Jazz and World Music Festival at Théâtre de la Mer
Fiest à Sète takes over the exceptional maritime setting of the Théâtre de la Mer in Sète, a Mediterranean city in Hérault. This eclectic festival celebrates encounters between modern jazz, international folk, and world music in an intimate atmosphere facing the Mediterranean.
The 2026 edition features a demanding programme: Fatoumata Diawara for African worldbeat, Ballake Sissoko, Malian kora master, Nana Benz du Togo, and Piers Faccini for acoustic folk.
From avant-garde jazz to nu jazz, spiritual jazz to post-bop, the festival explores the most creative territories of improvised music. Free improvisation and singer-songwriter complete a programme celebrating cultural dialogue and artistic boldness.
July 30 to August 2, 2026, tickets from €46.50 to €48.50. A Mediterranean gathering for jazz and world music lovers.
❓FAQ
Which edition is this, and how far back does it go?
The 29th. It started in 1997, when José Bel — the man behind Sète record shop Open Music — set up a festival with the Métisète association under the name Fiesta Latina. It was renamed Fiest'A Sète as the line-up widened from Cuba to the Indian Ocean, Africa and the Balkans. Illustrator Virginie Morgand created the 2026 poster.
Dates and length?
18 July to 3 August 2026, fifteen days in all. The opening week is built on ten free concerts and DJ sets in Sète and Poussan, followed by six themed ticketed nights at the Théâtre de la Mer.
Where are the concerts held?
The centrepiece is the Théâtre de la Mer, an open-air amphitheatre built into a former coastal fort on the corniche, promenade du Maréchal Leclerc, with the Mediterranean as its backdrop; twelve concerts are staged there. The free events are spread between La Ola beach, the François-Mitterrand media library, Le Dancing and the village of Poussan.
Is there food at the concert sites?
Yes, world-cuisine stalls are set up there, alongside a wider programme of film screenings and exhibitions.
What is there for children?
Arts and crafts workshops run Tuesday to Friday at the Petite Épicerie du MIAM, 23 quai Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny: 5.50 € per session, booking required on +33 4 99 04 76 44 as places are limited, and the results are then exhibited at Espace Félix. At the Nouveau Palace cinema, under-14s pay 4.50 € instead of the 6 € full price.
How big is the audience?
Organisers quote an average of 27,000 people a year. Spread over fifteen days of programming that comes to roughly 1,800 a day — an approximate figure, since the same festival-goers return from one night to the next.
