Fortress Festival 2026: black metal and extreme music in Scarborough, United Kingdom
Set in the art deco setting of Scarborough Spa, a seaside resort on Yorkshire's east coast, Fortress Festival has established itself as an essential gathering for black metal and extreme music fans in the UK. Every year in late May, this two-day festival celebrates the most radical sounds in an unexpected architectural setting.
The 2026 edition gathers 22 artists from the European black metal scene. Old Man's Child, Mortiis and Abigail Williams form the headliners, joined by Akercocke, Dodheimsgard and Misþyrming.
The festival extends to atmospheric black metal, avant-garde metal, blackened death metal, dark ambient, dungeon synth and industrial metal. A sonic palette exploring the darkest and most experimental territories of contemporary metal.
