113 upcoming festivals already have R&B acts announced, 28 where it dominates; 14 with tickets on sale. Dates: October 2026 to August 2027. The most R&B: Cabaret Vert 2027, Kpopworld Festival 2026, and LA RUE D'AUBAGNE.

R&B at festivals

Contemporary R&B took shape in North America in the late 1970s and early 1980s, as rhythm and blues absorbed pop, funk, soul and electronic production, then hip-hop through Teddy Riley's new jack swing in 1986. At festivals it almost always shares the bill with hip-hop, soul and jazz, whether on city park stages or at large summer weekenders.

In the US, Essence Festival began in New Orleans in 1995 to mark the 25th anniversary of Essence magazine and runs over the Fourth of July weekend. Camp Flog Gnaw, started by Tyler, the Creator in 2012, takes over Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles between late October and mid-November, with R&B acts next to its rap headliners. In England, Love Supreme brings jazz, soul, funk and R&B to Glynde Place in East Sussex in early July, and Cross the Tracks takes over Brockwell Park in London in May.
