South of Heaven 2026: Maastricht's Metal Deluge
South of Heaven transforms Maastricht's Vrijthof square into a temple of extreme metal from June 5-7, 2026. This leading Dutch festival brings together 19 legendary and emerging bands from thrash, death metal, and power metal, offering headbangers three days of sonic assault in the historic setting of one of Europe's most beautiful medieval squares.
The 2026 lineup features a dream cast with legendary MEGADETH, California thrash pioneers led by Dave Mustaine, ANTHRAX, New York Big Four pillars, and SEPULTURA, Brazilian legends of tribal groove metal. The DEATH TO ALL project will pay tribute to Chuck Schuldiner's genius, while Black Label Society will deliver Zakk Wylde's heavy blues.
The lineup explores the full diversity of extreme metal with SEPTICFLESH and their epic symphonic death metal, Dismember for old-school Swedish death, SEVERE TORTURE with their Dutch brutality, and CORROSION OF CONFORMITY with their Southern sludge. The festival also welcomes ALESTORM pirates, WIND ROSE epic dwarves, and Gloryhammer fantasy warriors.
The underground scene is represented by HELLRIPPER, Flotsam and Jetsam, Becoming A.D., Boneripper, Haywire, and Nephylim. Between doom, black metal, and progressive metal, South of Heaven celebrates four decades of extreme metal evolution in a fraternal atmosphere that honors the genre's heritage while embracing its future.
