📋About
Viljandi Folk Music Festival 2026: world folk at the ruins of Viljandi Castle
The Viljandi Folk Music Festival is one of the most respected folk festivals in Northern Europe, set among the romantic ruins of a medieval castle in Viljandi, Estonia. Since the 1990s, it has annually celebrated traditional and world music, placing them in dialogue with contemporary influences.
The 2026 edition brings together 9 artists across four days. NANCY VIEIRA, an iconic voice of Cape Verdean morna, appears alongside DUO RUUT, an Estonian kannel duo, and The Zawose Queens, inheritors of the Tanzanian taarab tradition.
Acoustic folk sits alongside African music, Estonian folk, Scandinavian indie folk and revisited traditional dance forms. The festival champions artists who maintain a living connection with their territory's oral repertoires.
From 22 to 25 July 2026, the ruins of Viljandi Castle host this edition. Check the full programme and book your tickets.
