❓FAQ
What time does each day open?
Festival gates open daily at noon, parking gates at 9am. Camping gates take arrivals Wednesday noon-8pm, Thursday to Saturday 9am-7pm and Sunday 9am-noon. The onsite box office trades 9am-9pm Wednesday through Sunday; the day before, Tuesday 28 July, an offsite window runs 10am-8pm at the Val Air Ballroom, 301 Ashworth Rd in West Des Moines.
Do you need cash?
No, it all runs off the wristband. Activate it before you travel and link a credit card to pay cashlessly with every vendor, while also adding an emergency contact and speeding up your walk through the gates.
How do you get there without a car?
A shuttle connects Des Moines to the festival daily from 10am to 2am; St. Charles sits about half an hour south of the city. Driving, your route depends on your pass: I-35 Exit 56 for 4-day general, premium and ADA parking plus the campgrounds, Exit 47 for single-day parking and car camping. The Exit 52 off-ramps are closed 30 July to 2 August, and vehicle re-entry is not allowed from the 1-day lot.
How does camping work?
Five formats sit side by side, each with its own guide: tent, car camping, RV, glamping and ADA camping. Admission passes include neither parking nor camping, both are bought separately, and sleeping in the parking lots is prohibited. At the heart of the campgrounds, the Basecamp hub gathers bars, shops and vendors.
Is there food and drink around the clock?
Three vendors run 24/7 at Basecamp: Space Fruit, Pizza Nova and Iowah Noodz. The full-service bar opens Wednesday 4pm-midnight, then 9am-1pm and 9pm-1am Thursday to Saturday. Neighbouring SolFarm keeps an organic produce stand Thursday to Sunday 10am-2pm, and free water refill stations are spread through the venue and the campgrounds — empty bottles and camelpacks are welcome.
What accommodations exist for disabled guests?
No special ticket is needed: email [email protected], ideally before 10 July, then finish registering at the ADA check-in tent just outside the South Entrance to collect an Accessibility Wristband plus one companion wristband. On site there is a shaded accessible viewing area with a small bar, folding chairs, accessible restrooms and a water station, a tented sensory supportive space, and dedicated parking at Gate F on presentation of a government-issued placard. ASL interpretation and live captioning can be requested in advance.
Is there anything for families?
A space built for makers and families runs creative activities all day, with live music and one-off events. On the accessibility side, under-18s are allowed as extra companions.
What happens if it gets too hot?
Hinterland runs a 90 Degree Guarantee: pass holders can request a return on festival admission for any day forecast to hit 90 degrees or more. Worth knowing too, the grounds hold nearly 3.5 miles of wooded paths and the walk from the lots to the venue is on foot, so closed-toed shoes are strongly encouraged.
What are the 2026 dates?
30 July to 2 August 2026 in St. Charles, Iowa: four days. Peak traffic is flagged for 9am on Thursday, then 1pm-6pm each day and on the way out every night.
